Dress ups - Black Face Australia

7:55 PM

Dear White Australians who are ignorant about this issue....when will this stop?
We all love a good dress up party. Clothing and fashion help dictate who you're trying to be and what image you're trying to perceive. Although most of my fashion posts are about how fun fashion is, as an Australian I think its very important to address this issue.
We continuously see people dressing in blackface and mocking indigenous people and it seems like its never going to stop. These few pictures have been all over my newsfeed today.
The sports star AFL one is questionable.  If he had no racist intentions and genuinely wanted to dress like the player I could somewhat see where he was coming from. In saying that I do know how messed up blackface is and the history behind it so I could see why people found it offensive.
Meanwhile the other two pictures posted below are clearly mocking and stereotyping black people and are no way acceptable at all. Like yes we all love a good joke but at what cost? These people are still suffering after the British f*cked them over and took their land all those years ago. They're still having to deal with white people like this making fun of them.  I always find myself cringing at the comments section of Facebook posts about these issues.
Education is everything. We need to change our history books. We need to learn in school that no Australia was founded by captain cook. That it was invaded by him and the rape, genocide and children kidnapping that followed. How is it to make fun of people who went through such terrible events?
