Event : Friday Nights With Jean Paul Gaultier x Remi9:00 AM
A rotating catwalk, interactive talking mannequins, hand sewn beaded dresses & celeb attire worn by the greats - Beyonce, Madonna & Amy Winehouse. They are just some of the highlights from the spectacular Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. Fresh from his very last runway show in Paris Mr Gaultier made his way to Melbourne & set up this amazing show. The exhibition has 8 rooms with different themes. As you loose yourself in each one you walk and see theres more fashion goodness. The first room was filled with mannequins which spoke to the crowd. Amongst them was JPG infamous mermaid dress. The video showed the model limping in it with a crutch. I Youtubed it later and saw half way down the model stops and unzips the side and continues to walk normally to the end of the runway. Theres a interactive Jean Paul mannequin in there as well. The second room explores celebrity attire & corsets - Like the one Madonna was famous for (them cone boobs). The third room was my favourite. It was the Punk rock room filled with graffiti wall and a turnt up runway with mannequins on rotation. The next room had a dominatrix feel finished with sultry red lighting. Room five had snippets of movies that featured JPG with mirrored walls and a leopard printed attire complete with a dildo LOL. The next room was huge. It was full of Couture pieces. The fine detail & time to get each piece done was so fascinating. The last room had ready to wear pieces and Hollywood red carpet type glamor. As we walked out I'd hoped that the exhibition wouldn't end and there was maybe another room or two full of Amazingness.
After the show Melbourne rapper Remi took the stage and entertained the crowd with a few tunes. I've seen him live 2 times before and love supporting Melbourne artists.
